Toshiba Defect,
I purchased my Satellite 15 months ago and have loved it until two weeks ago when the 2 USB ports on the right-hand side came loose and fell inside. I took the computer to a repair shop and was told this is a common issue with Toshiba laptops due to the weld Toshiba uses for the ports; they couldn’t repair it but could send it in to Toshiba for repair — at a cost of $400! I contacted Toshiba and was told that since I was 5 months out of warranty, they could repair it, but it would cost me … $400! If you go online and search for Toshiba USB Port problems, you will find a slew of people that have experienced the same issue with their Toshiba laptops, even current year models. Save your money and purchase a different brand of laptop.

|Poor Choice – No Warranty Support,
Purchased this laptop in February. The DVD/CD Drive is located so close to the power plug going into the laptop that you cannot open the drive without either unplugging the laptop, or pushing the power cord out of the way. After doing this a few times, the power cord no longer works. Cannot operate the laptop at all, since the battery has run down and there is no longer any way to use the power cord.
Called Toshiba Customer Service, since the laptop is still under warranty. They told me that this is considered damage to the laptop and I’ll have to pay $175 to repair what is clearly a manufacturing problem or defect. Whoever heard of a laptop where you couldn’t open the drive without unplugging it?
I was told that I could contact a case manager, or whatever it is their title is – couldn’t quite understand the person I was talking to – between 8 AM and 8 PM Eastern time, but that they were going to refer the matter and I should expect a call back. So far there’s been no further contact with Toshiba, and the two attempts I’ve made to contact them myself have resulted in dropped calls.
The price of the laptop is good, but I guess the adage “You get what you pay for” applies. I’ve had Toshiba products before, including a top of the line laptop. Never had any problem with their quality before this purchase. But I can assure you that I will never own another Toshiba product, and advise anyone thinking about buying electronics to think twice about purchasing anything from Toshiba.

|Great Laptop for the Blogger,
As a professional blogger at Spend Less and Save More, I was looking for a quality laptop for an affordable price. That is exactly what I got with this Toshiba. It is fast, has a decent battery life and comes with enough basics that I am able to get done what I need to. Love the numeric keypad on the side that my former laptop didn’t have and the large size of this laptop gives your the feel of a desktop as far as keypad and screen dimensions go. I have had this laptop for 3 months and have not had one problem and am over all impressed with this computer.
